May 18, 2017 - KVM, video virtio, Debian 8 guest, host with Intel HD 4000 – install a 4.9 kernel on the guest for optimal 2D graphics performance! Some time ago I wrote a post about the use of new virtio video driver for a KVM guest with a Debian 8 operative system. Twentyeleven theme modified by anracom.com. I have just installed Debian Jessie xfce 4.10 on a laptop with Intel hd graphics 4000 and it overheats even while watching videos, causing sudden shutdown of the system. While running Windows everything works well, so I think the problem is caused by default Debian's graphic driver. I can't find a proper one for Debian. So, I'm a happy user of Debian on a Lenovo G480 series laptop, have been for a good while. Was given Steam games and money to spend in more games, which I'm thankful for -I can say I have made awesome friends over the internet!.But I have no idea what games would play (reasonably) well in an Intel integrated graphics chipset. Most guides with system requirements I have seen completely omit mentioning integrated chipsets, giving information only on external NVidia or ATI cards. Most guides would not even mention if a game can start under an integrated chipset. So, in order to decide what if any games to buy from Steam to play on my Linux machine I would like to ask for the experience of the Reddit community on running games in integrated chipsets. I have a Sandybridge Core i3 laptop with Intel HD 3000 graphics and I can play almost any indie game (which conveniently we have tons of) and most AAA games up to around 2010. Some examples that run pretty well (tested at 1366x768, some with slightly lowered settings): • Killing Floor 1 • Don't Starve • Geometry Wars 3 • Fahrenheit • Besiege • Doom 3 • Half-life 2 • Portal 2 • Empire: Total War • Morrowind (OpenMW-osg port) • Mount & Blade: Warband • Counter-Strike: Source Most Source engine games run alright except for L4D2, which I found very stuttery (I guess due to shader compilation).
